Another List for 30 More Days…

I saw this challenge on a couple of blogs that I visited.  It’s a challenge where you have a list of things to do in 30 days.  You don’t have to do them all, but it would be pretty cool if you could give it a shot. 🙂

I know I haven’t exactly been the poster girl for these things as I have yet to re-start my 30 days of Truth blog project but this seems fairly easier than that so I thought I’d give it a try.

I’m not exactly sure what the rules are but I think you’re allowed to do more than one thing on this list per day.

  1. Send a surprise, I think you’re fabulous card to someone
  2. Unplug for a whole day
  3. Get a massage
  4. Flirt with a stranger *brief eye contact, smile and look away*
  5. Go for a stroll after dinner
  6. Have champagne for no reason other than to celebrate life
  7. Set a timer and write down something you’re grateful for every hour for a day
  8. Remove 5 things from your environment that doesn’t make you feel beautiful
  9. Do something completely out of character
  10. Invite someone you want to get to know for lunch
  11. Kiss someone
  12. Read a poem to someone you love
  13. Watch a foreign film
  14. Throw a slumber party
  15. Send your worst enemy flowers anonymously
  16. Donate $10 to charity or in my case, 400 pesos.
  17. Put something beautiful on a blank wall you see everyday
  18. Spend an afternoon reading
  19. Have a fancy midday luncheon complete with cloth napkins and wine
  20. Spend an afternoon taking care of pesky issues then treat yourself to a steaming mug of coffee or tea
  21. Donate 5 items out of your closet that don’t make you feel stunningly beautiful
  22. Buy an utterly frivolous piece of lingerie
  23. Get rid of 5 items in your home that don’t bring you pleasure
  24. Hold a baby
  25. Read a biography of your favorite screen star or the bravest most badass chick
  26. Write down your wildest dreams
  27. Create an occasion to wear your most outrageous shoes (maybe throw in a wig too)
  28. Make lemonade
  29. Jump into a body of water
  30. Give someone a hug and wait for them to let go first
  31. Research something that sparks your curiosity.  If you are still curious after 15 minutes delve deeper
  32. Forgive yourself
  33. Forgive someone else
  34. Spend an hour in silent reflection
  35. Select a part of your home and organize it.
  36. Upgrade your sleepwear for a night or go Marilyn Style
  37. Pretend for a day you are as amazing as you want to be.
  38. Do ONE thing you’ve always wanted to do.
  39. Go to a playground and swing on the swing set.
  40. Bake a cake.

Sounds easy enough… We’ll see how far I’ll get this time! 🙂

I’ve never been one for horror flicks. They scare the bejeezus out of me every single time. I guess that’s why it took me forever to actually get into the whole Walking Dead fad. I could go on and on but, long story short, ME + ZOMBIES that actually look real (not that I’ve actually seen one in real life) = DISASTER

Having said that, I’ve made a personal list (here we go again with the lists) of the people who should AVOID watching this series. (I say avoid instead of never because, well, you never say never right?)

____________ + Walking Dead = BAD IDEA!

It’s more than a little gory and it CAN get pretty violent. My brother is 16 years old and he still cringes and looks away in some parts. My friend, being the smart Mommy that she is (and I say this sarcastically,) watched the show with her 6 year old daughter. Now her daughter goes into her room at night saying, “Mommy, I think I hear Walkers outside.”

By chicken, I don’t mean the animal (although the chickens here at home do react to the sounds at times.) The chickens I’m referring to are those people that pee in their pants every time a loud BANG bursts out from the TV. Unless you get your kicks from staring at a friend of yours passed out on the couch, watching this show with a scaredy cat couldn’t be farther from a stress-free Saturday night with the gang. Yeah it’s funny the first couple of  shrieks but when your friends lips start paling, you know it’s time to hit the stop button on that DVD player.

If you consider yourself someone with an active imagination, you should think twice about watching this series. Usually, people who are able to picture things vividly in their minds carry a very special gift. Unfortunately, when left with their thoughts and the lights are off, the zombies start to become that much more real.

  4. QUEASY QUEENS (my brother’s contribution)

I can’t stress the word GORY enough. Blood is one thing but severed body parts, exploding heads and continuous spillage of guts can get your tummy turning inside out faster than you can say WALKER!

With that, I end my 2 cents worth on the topic of WALKING DEAD. If you do decide to watch this series, ease into it. Trust me, diving into it from zero will keep you up at night wondering about all the little bumps and creaks around the house.

As for me, I’m a CHICKEN, an IMAGINATION ARTIST and a QUEASY QUEEN rolled into one big mess. I watch this show and my eyes start bulging out of their sockets and my nails run out faster than the eraser on the end of a number 2 pencil.

The funny thing is though, the minute I started watching this show, I was HOOKED! It drove me crazy the night I first started watching it. I woke up at 3am, looked around my dark bedroom and wanted to glue my eyes shut. I freak out easily and I don’t really know what pushed me to start watching this series but in a way, it’s been both the reason for a few stress lines on my face as well as the reason for some of the smile lines too.

FINAL STATEMENT, Walking Dead is INSANE in both the good and the gory way. If you do decide to stick it into your player, make sure you’ve cleared your bladder and screwed your head on real tight! It’ll be one hell of a ride! 🙂

Weekly Junk and a Psychopathic Punk. All in all, a good week!

I’ve taken a much needed hiatus from the blog project because:

  1. I feel like I’ve become a conformist
  2. I’ve become way too dependent on the list and I think the train of thought isn’t very happy with me. That would probably explain why “he” (because I’ve decided that my train is male and I’ve named him Chuck) now refuses to make his usual stops in Lala Land aka my head.
  3. I feel like I’ve been blocking a lot of the real stuff out because I’ve been concentrating too much on the blog project.
  4. I’ve been preoccupied (enough said)

Having said that, I’d like to give you guys my two cents worth on some topics that I personally found quite interesting this past week.

I’ve decided to start a new segment on my blog. Since I don’t really enjoy droning on and on about every single thing I do every day (this is supposing you actually enjoy reading stuff like that which is something I highly doubt) I thought I’d just take time out to highlight the best parts of each week as well as make a note of the craziest and most random thoughts that pop up every day.  So… Here we go…

Aside from watching a couple almost get run over by a bus because they were making out in the middle of the street (true story,) here’s this weeks’ rundown of:

  1. If you randomly start humming “Rainy Days and Mondays” by The Carpenters on the train, someone’s bound to continue the song (this ALWAYS happens when I do it.)
  2. If you want some really cool tips on singing, I got one for ya! Stick a pen in your mouth (Not like a lollipop! Bite it sideways oh smart one) and practice singing like that. It lifts your cheeks and forces you to really work the muscles in your face (you may think it’s not a big deal but those face muscles can make or break you)
  3. TO THE RANDOM TRAIN GUY: When you fart on the train or in any crowded place, singing Circle of Life loudly doesn’t help take the attention away from you Sweetie. Whoever told you otherwise doesn’t like you very much.

  1. Contrary to what other people say, cheap breakfasts don’t always have to be nasty. Just make sure you know where to go. 🙂
  2. When a fluffy ass girl with an attitude problem picks a fight with one of your bestest friends, sock her in the gut MENTALLY(because really, we’re civilized people here) and quietly mumble a jinx ala Harry Potter (because it just sounds so cool and so mystical.) There’s a 99.9% chance that jinx won’t work but if you look AWESOME doing it… C’est la vie! 😀
  3. Paper bags are lifesavers. A friend of mine hyperventilates when she gets upset so that paper bag becomes more important to her than gravity!
  4. When you have to choose between walking under the heat of the sun to buy food or starving to death, you should seriously just plop down on the ground and start sobbing OR look for a kindhearted soul who will buy your food for you! 🙂

  1. Kids really do say the darnest things! I ran into a little girl on the street while jogging (yes, I jog now because I don’t want to waste my running shoes,) and she looks up at me and says “Are you the fairy godmother from Cinderella?” 😀
  2. When giving a baby boy a bath, make sure your head is angled at a considerably higher position. The water that shoots out from his direction may not be bath water. Trust me when I say, bath water is so much better than the alternative. 😛
  3. Watching a couple of episodes of F.R.I.E.N.D.S makes the world stop until there’s just YOU, Chandler, Monica, Ross, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey. After the show, you fade back into reality and realize that the world is no longer as horrible as it was an hour and a half ago. 😀

  1. Has the word SORRY become obsolete for some people?! I swear to the high heavens… there are people that feel like the world owes them a favor. They think that when they screw up it’ll eventually just blow over and the moment will pass. Well I hate to be the one to break it to you buddy but, if that’s the way you think, I guess your parents lied when they told you you were human because that’s just not the way things work here ON EARTH.
  2. Sometimes long walks under the heat of the sun is the only way you can separate the regular friends from those that are AMAZING! 😀
  3. First love never dies, True or False? My friend Miko emphatically replies that this statement is true (with matching head snap and dynamic gestures), I’m still on the rocks when it comes to this, seeing as I can’t even remember if I’ve had an actual first love (I’ll let you know as soon as I work it out,) and my other friend Val just rolls her eyes and says she has yet to fall in love.
  4. When invited to a pre-birthday celebration with friends, it’s always a good move to say YES (especially when your friends are pretty wholesome and totally  AWESOME.) You never know what you’re going to miss so it’s best that you’re there to experience everything firsthand. 🙂
  5. When your slightly drunk friend is smoking her lungs out, steer clear! That cigarette is deadly in more ways than one.
  6. Girl time in the parking lot is a great way to put gossip to rest and get some facts straightened out.
  7. When you know something good is about to happen (aka your friend comes home from the US and plans to surprise his girlfriend,) don’t go running off to the bathroom to pee. HOLD IT IN!!! Chances are, you’ll miss the whole thing (my best friend Jade did! Hahaha. 😀 )
WELCOME HOME LJ (with Badet and Sherry and half of Kaan's face)

WELCOME HOME LJ (with BADET and SHERRY and half of KAAN's face)

Meet my best friend JADE

  1. There are times when car air-conditioning just won’t cut it. Instead of it feeling like a cool breeze blowing from Utopia, it ends up becoming little gusts of steam from the mouth of a volcano (I wish I were kidding but, I’m not!)
  2. When having to deal with somebody you strongly dislike but can’t really ignore, put up a brave face and take one for the team.
  3. TO THE STUDENT WHO THINKS HE CAN FLY: When there’s a barricade of sorts in the middle of the sidewalk, don’t go all Superman-ish and decide to jump the thing. It’s there for a reason genius. Chances are, there’s a huge ditch right smack in the middle and you fall into dirty sewage water (which is exactly what happened.)
  4. There’s this thing we Filipinos call THE TRICYCLE. Now I don’t really know how  they do it but, this magical little vehicle fits 7 people (give or take) plus the driver.

So that’s about it for my very first “STUFF THAT MATTERS” entry. Here’s to hoping you guys picked up a couple of things.

It wasn’t a perfect week but it was MY week just the same. I am thankful EVERY SINGLE DAY for all the blessings that constantly come my way and for all the simple joys that pop up at the most unexpected moments.

I promise I’ll get back to doing the blog project soon. I just thought this would be a fun thing to write about so I broke the usual pattern. 🙂

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own.
And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”

-Dr. Seuss

Perfect Timing!

Randomly clicking on various blog entries via the topic page is basically how I get around the bloggersphere (I hear that’s a word. Haha. 😀 ) I’ve read loads of great entries on a variety of topics and I just feel so blessed to be among such amazing and talented people.

I’m not the quickest of thinkers. I can’t squeeze out an entry every single day. I like to put a little bit of thought into what I post so I don’t come off as someone who publishes stuff just for the heck of it. That being said, it takes me a while to write stuff down and eventually turn it into a blog entry.

I’ve asked a couple of people to throw some of their thoughts my way. I’d like to know what they want me to write about so I don’t have to do a self-analysis every freakin time. Unfortunately, love (aka the boyfriend project) is a topic I am completely unfamiliar with, sex (a topic a guy friend of my suggested) is out of the question and fashion is just not me unless you’d like to read about my tops that I tend to put on the minute they get back from the wash and my 2 pairs of denim jeans. So again I say… WHAT DO I WRITE ABOUT?!

I came across Andromache’s blog today and I was really interested in the last entry posted. This blog post could not have come at a better time because quite frankly, I’m stomped.

So there… That’s the Blog Project. 30 days of honest entries and hard hitting facts. I’ve decided to take this challenge on though I don’t promise to be consistent about my postings. Who knows, I may just get hit by the train of thought (who currently seems to be eluding me for some reason) and end up writing something AWESOME or most likely, just something completely random but still totally ME . Regardless, I’ll do my best to rock this list. 🙂

Every creator painfully experiences the chasm between his inner vision and its ultimate expression.  The chasm is never completely bridged.  We all have the conviction, perhaps illusory, that we have much more to say than appears on the paper.”

See you all on the flip side! 😀 CHEERS!

I’m Gonna Get There Part 2

This is part two of my Travel Log. I’ve thought about what countries and places to put on this 2nd list and realized that there’s still quite a few left, but I decided to narrow it down to just four more. Keeping in mind what a fellow blogger advised, I shall be linking the photos I will use to their original sites. If you guys want to check out some more stuff about the countries I will be listing down here, you can click on the photo and it will take you to a new site that will most likely have more useful information than my “Why New Zealand? Because Lord of the Rings was shot there.” 😀 So with that, let me begin my list…

You know those movies where there are pirates and treasures and hidden cities? Well, Halong Bay in Vietnam has a feel to it that’s just like that. Every time I look at photos, I feel like some sort of prehistoric creature is bound to appear out of nowhere and bite my fingers off. I would also want to meet the people and enjoy the food. A couple of my friends have already visited Vietnam and they say not only are the people incredibly pleasant, the food is to die for too. 🙂 Two of my favorite combinations! I shall see you soon Vietnam! 😀

Not forgetting my Asian roots (as you can see I’ve already listed Vietnam up top) I’d also like the opportunity to visit China. Not only do they have the Great Wall, which can be seen from the moon, gorgeous gardens and the Jiuzhaigou River, which is really pretty because of the beautiful array of colours; but they have… AUTHENTIC CHINESE FOOD! I am a sucker for Chinese. I can live off the stuff forever. I’d also like to get the chance to explore the other hidden treasures that China has to offer and paint the beautiful scenery. 😀 I’m no artist but I try. 🙂

I’ve always wanted to go on a Safari in Africa. Two of my favourite TV channels are Discovery and National Geographic. Animals fascinate me and I’d like to be able to spend some time in their natural habit as opposed to me looking through cages and aquariums and them looking back with sad eyes (granted, some may have been sad AND hungry eyes). There are some that are oblivious to the fact that Africa isn’t just a Savannah.

They also have beautiful beaches in Cape Town, South Africa as well as unspoiled islands like Seychelles off the East Coast of Africa. Another reason why I would like to visit Africa is, I’d like to be able to help out the people there through whatever means I can. I know that some people living there are not as fortunate as others and are not given enough attention and support. I hope to be able to find away to make their lives a little bit easier. I know I won’t be able to do as much as I would like but a little goes a long way. 🙂

Last place on my future tour around the world is good ‘ol Spain. I’ve got a little Spanish blood in me (and by little… I mean itty bitty :D) so I’d like to be able to experience the culture and see the sites for myself. I’ve always thought of Spain as a lively country. I have a couple of Spanish friends and they definitely do not disappoint. Their food is absolutely to-die-for and their clothes are stunning. I also love the fact that a lot of their streets are still made of cobbled stones. I think it gives it an olden touch of sorts. I think Spain is absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to visit. 😀

This is where I end my travel log. Writing this entry has made me so excited for the future and even more determined to actually go to all the places that I’ve listed. I hope that one day I am able to get the chance to travel and experience all of these wonderful cultures and encounter all of these amazing people. The world truly is a magnificent place and every day we spend on it truly is a blessing! 😀

I’m Gonna Get There!

This is another list. I’ve made quite a few of these since I started this blog and I’m hoping the stuff I put in them have, more or less, provided you with a small glimpse of my persona. I start this post by saying how completely fascinated I am with the world. (I suck at geography though but let’s not get into that) This place we live in truly is a blessing. Its awesomeness never ceases to plaster a smile on my face. Such beauty just calls out to be explored and one of these days, I will answer that call.

I’ve decided to try my hand at making a travel entry. Not to the places I’ve been, but to the places I want to go to someday. There are just so many wonderful little nooks on this planet that I have yet to see, so many cultures I have yet to immerse myself in and, most importantly, there so many more delicacies I have yet to try and savour. 😛 Just thinking about it gets me all giddy and excited. 😀

This isn’t to say that I haven’t had my fair share of travel. I’ve been very fortunate in life and have touched down on four of the seven continents. Still, it’s nice to have something to tack up on your wish board (yes I have one of those) and dream about day and night and in all the spare minutes in between. 😀 Again, it looks like I will have to divide this entry into two. There’s so much to see and so many places to share that I’m pretty sure I’d start sounding like a travel book by the end of a full post. Bear with me here. 😀

photo from the internet - NEW YORK CITY

If you haven’t dreamt at least once about strolling the streets of Manhattan and enjoying the magnificence of Central Park, then you haven’t lived. There’s also the teeny tiny possibility of actually seeing a Broadway show IN Broadway. So many beautiful people, so many wonderful sites.  New York truly is “The city that never sleeps.”

photo from the internet - FRANCE

I have ticked off Europe on my list of continents because we’ve been lucky enough to visit London twice now. On

photo from the interent - AUSTRIA

our last visit, we joined a tour that took us to Bath in Somerset and Stonehenge (hence my lovely gravatar) but we have yet to venture out further than that. One day, I hope to scratch France (the Eiffel Tower, Chateau de Chantilly, Arc de Triomphe), Austria (huge Sound of Music fan!), Ireland (don’t even get me started. I was a little girl once. HELLO CASTLES!), Italy (food, glorious FOOD!), Spain (rich culture and colorful history), Greece (again with the amazing food, the beautiful people and the breath taking view and cobalt blue water) and Switzerland (chocolate) off my list. Okay… Honestly, I would love to be able to scratch as many European countries as I can. I think Europe truly is a rich and wonderful place!

photo from the internet - NEW ZEALAND

The minute I laid eyes on the vast lands of New Zealand in the movie Lord of the Rings, I knew I had to one day walk on the same ground as Frodo and the rest of the Fellowship. I’ve always loved nature. Even the smallest rock has an interesting story to tell.  The best part about being able to visit this place is being able to see my 2 cousins. 🙂

photo from the internet - BORA BORA

I absolutely LOVE the beach. My country, the Philippines, is surrounded by tons of beaches, some commercialized (cabanas, white tanning chairs, karaoke, villa’s… The works) while others remain untouched (a blanket, some food and the stars). Regardless, taking a dip in the water is something I really enjoy doing. I guess this is why another place I’ve always wanted to go to is Bora-Bora. The ambience of the place just leaves me breathless. The thought of encountering something completely unexpected underwater gives me quite a thrill. 🙂

photo from the internet - BRAZIL

Brazil is just such a lively place that you can’t help but want that upbeat lifestyle even if it’s just for a little while. Every time I see photos or movies of this country, it’s always so colourful and so alive. I also love how their music speaks to each person and how dance has become a language that speaks to every heart and every soul may it be young or old. I believe that this place truly is magical in its own special way. 😀

And with this, I end part one of my soon-to-be travel log. I promise I will post part two just as soon as I decide which places I really really want to visit. And to Greg and Krista, my awesome followers, I shall post my Bucket List if and when I have decided what to put in it. 😀 Don’t worry though, I’ve already started! CHEERS! 🙂

Book List 102

As promised, here is my 2nd Book List. The 1st one was a list of series. This one will be a list of individual books that I personally can’t help but skim every now and then. I didn’t follow a particular genre while writing this down. This list is a mix of the old, the new, the probable and the impossible. I hope you guys enjoy it and I hope you decide to pick one of the titles up the next time you’re at a bookstore.

“She says nothing at all but simply stares upward into the dark sky and watches with sad eyes, the slow dance of the infinite stars.” – STARDUST

I was lucky enough to have my copy signed by Neil Gaiman when he came to the Philippines.

Stardust is an adventure into a magical, unknown world. A boy, blinded by infatuation, searches for a fallen star in exchange for the heart of the woman he desires. In the end he finds something that will one day be the story of legend. This book was an engaging journey towards love and self-fulfillment. Neil Gaiman definitely DID NOT disappoint.

“Zakhor. Al Tichkah. Remember. Never forget.”- SARAH’S KEY

I’m not too crazy about Nazi stories. Not because they’re boring or anything but because my heart can’t seem to take it. Most books in this genre are too graphic or too morbid for me. With an imagination like mine and a story like that, it’s hard not to envision the events evolve clearly in your mind. This was the first Holocaust inspired book I’ve ever read. Although it was mellower (to some extent) compared to other novels in this category, tears still streamed down my face and the scenes still played out so vividly in my head. The pain was so real that I literally had to stop and clear my head a couple of times. Fair warning though, this book was painfully beautiful but very, very specific. Don’t rush into the story though because there’s a lot to take in.

“Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you.” – THE SHADOW OF THE WIND

The story begins with a Father and his son and their journey to the Cemetery of Forgotten books. The boy is allowed to choose 1 book from countless shelves and ends up selecting a book that reveals a story, long hidden and almost forgotten. Shadow of the wind taps into all points of interest, from mystery, to murder, to an aching romance that was doomed before it even started. It is a testimony to the power of words and is indeed a page turner. Filled with so many twists and turns, you can’t help but read a little faster, just to find out what’s about to happen next. 🙂

“Business is a game, played for fantastic stakes, and you’re in competition with experts. If you want to win, you have to learn to be a master of the game.” – MASTER OF THE GAME

This book starts and ends with a woman named Kate Blackwell. Hers is a story of pain, revenge and manipulation of the highest degree. As the pages turn, you witness the transformation of every character in this story. The book overflows with so many twists and turns that you sometimes need to take a moment to fully process it all. Some characters in this novel become so conniving and their schemes so cunning that you find yourself constantly at the edge of your seat, waiting for their next move. There was never a dull moment whilst I was reading this book. Every page made my heart beat just a little bit faster and my mind just a little bit crazier. Truly a novel of EPIC proportions.

“It’s not about how to achieve your dreams, it’s about how to lead your life, … If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, the dreams will come to you.” – THE LAST LECTURE

I’m not a big fan of self-help books so it took me a while to pick up The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. Deciding to finally read this was one of the smartest and best decisions I ever made. In all honesty, this book is probably my favourite. It doesn’t go up on any shelf because it has a special spot on one of the tables beside my bed. What’s so beautiful about this is not the flowery words or the dozens of quotable quotes inserted in each chapter. The beauty is in the fact that all this optimism, all this faith and overpowering love is pouring out of the heart of a dying man. Tears never fail to escape my eyes every time I open this book. It is a testament to the life and the heart of a man so unbelievably special; he touched the lives of millions of people all over the world.
